  • Great Budget Pencil
First, the cons.: My white pencil came bent; the rest of the pencils were okay. They were not cushioned in the shipping box but so far, I haven't come across damage. These are not necessarily a "quick" pencil to color with. They work best when multiple light layers are used to build up color before burnishing. Burnishing can be an issue for those with arthritis. Pros: For the number of pencils you get, it's a fantastic price. They have great layering and blending qualities, but you need to have patience because multiple light layers are what create fantastic pigment appearance. They have a great selection of colors that are useful for portraits, landscapes, seascapes, etc. They work great with solvent. They are good for anyone who has a heavy hand since the cores are hard. For me, the crayola pencils worked best and appear vibrant on regular bristol vellum. I use a 67lb bristol vellum (147 gsm) and the tooth of the paper really allows the pencil to grip the paper and lay down pigment. They are less vibrant and rather splotchy and uneven on smooth paper, but that could be due to my heavy hand. I have not tried them in children's coloring books, but in some adult coloring books they work great, and others...not so much. It all depends on the paper that is used. I use the crayolas to practice new coloring techniques, shading and shadow, sketching, and producing thumbnails of anything large-scale that I plan on coloring and painting. I love both burnishing after a lot of light layers, and, I like using them with solvent when I want the painterly effect and don't want to spend the time to burnish. Overall, this was worth the price and I would buy them again. ... show more

  • Good pencils for coloring and artistic work
When I received them I was very impressed by the quality they have improved so much. The selection of colors is very cool. (I always appreciate a wife range of colors) they are basic size colors pencils and they do have flaws too. When sharpening them sometimes they break on me and I have to keep sharpening them (it also could be my sharper). The most important thing is that they are great for shading and gradients when coloring and with practice they are very versatile for that. I hope this helps Best wishes ... show more

  • Amazing For Artists
It’s absolutely massive and full of so many colors and I love that a lot. The ones I got smell fresh from a woodshop (a good thing), so drawing with them is pleasant. Price per colored pencil in this set is really good value.

  • Great value with lots of colors
Crayola Colored Pencils, No Repeat Colors, 120 Count I hesitated buying these because I have the Prismacolor 132 set, and a few other brands, including the Crayola 50 set. I finally caved because this set has 120 colors & it was a Prime deal. Crayola pencils are harder than Prismacolor so they hold a point longer. I don't have to sharpen them as often. I haven't sharpened any yet, so I can't comment on bad wood, broken lead etc. These don't blend as nicely as Prismacolor, but they do blend. Crayola pencil colors aren't as vibrant or rich as Prismacolor. I have to press harder to get more color on the page. However, I always begin coloring with a light pressure & go over it to intensify the color. So far none of the colors I've used have been scratchy. If you've ever used a scratchy colored pencil, you'll understand what I mean. In the attached picture, for the hair, I blended Red Violet topped with Raspberry. I was going for an aubergine shade & almost accomplished it. My phone did not take an accurate color of my picture. The actual color ended up deeper & richer than the photo. (I gave up trying to edit the photo to depict the correct color.) For some reason, I colored the beads first with Tickle Me Pink, when I decided on the color of the elk, not sure what it is, the beads were too light so I went over them with Fiery Rose. That color is showing fairly accurate in the photo. The greens are off slightly too. The pencils don't have numbers, but they do have color names which can be hard to read depending on your lighting. There aren't any metallic colors. I wanted silver for the crown, but used warm gray in its place. I thought I was going to have problems with the flimsy box, but the pencils are packaged in lift out containers, 2 containers hold 36 pencils each, & 2 containers hold 24 each. The containers have a tall side which is designed to be put back in the box with the tall side against the side of the box, storing them this way will make the box stronger. I think I'll label each container with the color names & swatched colors showing the pencils in that box. So far I've had a great experience with this set of 120 colors. I feel they are a good value for a budget colored pencil. The photo is from Dimensions: A 3D-Inspired Coloring Book, François Gautier (Author) ... show more

  • Beautiful Colors/Good Price
I used these for my art that I sell on ebay and they worked nicely! I love the range of colors for the price. They are not as soft as Prismacolors, and probably not lightfast. They actually are easier to blend than other brands I've tried. I have sort of a heavy hand when blending, so the paleness of the first layers of Crayola make it easier to build intensity of the layers. I would say, if you can't afford to jump into Prismacolors, or if you want a lot of fun colors to work with, buy these! ... show more
