  • Awesome case!
Size: RGB Style: Mid-Tower
I recently bought the Corsair 500D SE case and it was the first case I've ever built on that had cable management. That was quite interesting and made my OCD go into overdrive but in the end the extra time spent planning out the wire routes was worth it. Frustrating at times but fun. Considering it's my first time on a more modern case, I think it looks pretty good. The two hinged panels are one of my favorite features of the case and only require one screw each to remove them for building. There are numerous channels, cutaways and slots for rerouting your wires and I really suggest taking the time to plan that out. If you have experience with cable management it'll probably be no issue for you, but for someone with no prior experience, give yourself the time to plan it out and don't fret when you have to disconnect everything over and over to get it right. Do it correctly the first time. This isn't to intimidate you, but to give you a heads up that this case requires a bit more attention to detail to make everything appealing. The case comes with removable brackets (2) for mounting your cooling set up in the front or top, and they only require two thumb screws to remove rapidly. Very convenient for your radiators and fans. On the rear the case comes with a metal bracket to hide the wires that go up the main channel, making everything look that much more sleek...you're mileage will vary if you are able to use it or not once everything is wired up. I wasn't but I could care less about that. I wouldn't worry too much about trying to make the cables routed to work with that bracket. 3 Corsair LL120 RGB fans are included, mounted in front. The RGB hub and Commander hub are included as well. This case came at a rather high price but I'm very satisfied. You can probably find cases cheaper, but this one had all the features I was looking for, good airflow, tempered glass, lots of fan mounts, hinged panels, didn't look like a boring enclosed cube. Pros: Hinged side panels are awesome Very nice quality material Tempered glass panels 3 Included fans 2 included hubs for fans/rgb control* Lots of space for activities Lots of options for managing your cables Very quiet (with my 6 fans and the pump running) Removable Magnetic Mesh filters (some love them for dust collection, some hate them for air restriction) Cons: -The cover on top isn't the best design, being restrictive to top mounted fans/rads. I wish it was easier to remove (the screws for it are in frustrating spots) or if we were able to buy an "upgrade" panel that offers way more airflow. As is, there's an array of tiny triangles cut into the top panel and a mesh screen below that. The way the top panel is formed is just a bad design IMO. Not a deal breaker but leaves something to be desired. -Expensive -Stock hub locations (wherever factory decides to stick them) are terrible however, they probably are just stuck there for shipping/storage and are intended for you to remount elsewhere, they include 2 strips of 3M double sided tape for just that reason. I didn't realize that at first and tried to make it work. LOL don't do that. I remounted them to a HDD slot for the commander hub and removed an SSD slot for the rgb controller location. *I HIGHLY SUGGEST moving the fan hubs to the back of the case, I wouldn't even try to make it work in the stock positions. The factory located them to the front of the PSU shroud inside the case (you can sort of see them in the first picture) and I'm letting you know now, there's no way of making your pc look good with those stock positions for the Corsair Commander hub thing, and if you add an additional rear fan like I did, you'll quickly see why (the last pic shows there's no good way to hide the cable, you have to go through the back instead) It was a bit of a hassle finding a spot the hubs would actually mount to (due to raised areas and such) and I opted for the layout shown in the pictures, it works very well for me. In summary: I truly love the way this case looks, and it was frustratingly fun to build in. I mean that in a good way. I've built quite a few PCs over the years but I enjoyed learning how to build to this case a lot...even if it meant a ton of unplugging and replugging of cables. Everything looks and feels great in the end. Thermals appear to be very decent so far, but would probably be even further improved by a more well designed top panel. ... show more

  • Almost 5 stars; still an excellent case
Size: RGB Style: Super-Tower
UPDATE: It's been a month or so and I began benching my results (overclocking and testing heat). I figured in my setup (1 x 480mm rad and D5 pump for my cpu (7900x) and another exact setup for my 2 1080ti cards in SLI, I should be golden. The end result is: yes and no. Having a rad on top as exhaust and another for intake meant that my CPU (front intake) stayed cooler than my VGA, which was on top (exhaust). My 7900x is OC to 4.6 and would hit about 76-80c under load. Not terrible but had room for improvement. My SLI cards oc'd would hit about 65c under load. Again, not bad but I was disappointed. I started with adding fans: 4 more to the front, four more on top and 2 for rear exhaust. Tested again. Slight improvement with the added airflow, but not enough to be 'Wow." I decided to add more rads. This case allowed me to add two more 'slim' 480mm rads (30mm), but i could have gotten away with 45mm. Setup # 2: 2x 480 (60mm thick) rads with a d5 pump for CPU (front) and two 480mm (30mm thick) rads on top for VGA. Stress tests again fared better. CPU dropped about 4c and VGA dropped about 5c. Not as substantial as I was hoping for for the SLI cards. Back to the drawing board (final round): decided to connect all 4 rads and 2 pumps in a serial configuration. CPU dropped an additional 4c and the VGA dropped an additional 10c. This pretty much summed up what I felt was a hindrance in this, or any tower, if you rely solely on top mounted rads- the ambient/heated air has an effect on cooling. I say all this to help the next person who wants to spec out a watercool build. My recommendation if yo have a multi-rad setup, is use both front intakes first, and use the top rack as a last resort. Still a 4 star case, though the Corsair Commander Pro loses a star. These things are finicky when you use PWM splitters or extenders. Use the wrong one, and the iCUE wont control them properly (I even used the INCLUDED Corsair extender and it would not control the fan speed on a Corsair mag-lev fan). Also be careful how many fans you use in total with one Commander unit. I got 12 no problem but 16 caused a malfunction, and it burned out two of the fan ports. INITIAL REVIEW: I've been building PCs for about 20 years. Mostly as a hobby, and sometimes for family and friends. I have tried many style cases from the minis to this behemoth. Pros: - Beautiful and quality construction. - Plenty of room (see cons) - iCUE from Corsair is a GREAT addition and a welcome add-on in this build to control fans speed (even non-pwm fans) and RGB lighting of Corsair products, like RGB RAM) - Customizable radiator trays (see cons) - Custom LED USB 3 ports on the front - The slide-out tempered glass doors are gorgeous - The rear french doors make cabling a very simple task - The SSD and HDD mounts are out of the way and in ideal locations. Cons: - I needed a case that could support 2 480mm radiators. The box really shouldn't have to be this big to accommodate such a minor request (this case is VERY tall). - Custom rad trays are awesome, but a single 480mm top-tray was out of stock from Corsair so I had to get another double 480mm tray which I wasn't happy about; I also feel that instead of including a 420mm triple 140mm tray on top they should have opted for the single-stack quadruple 120mm tray - Getting a 480mm rad on top and bottom did not allow enough room with my rads (GTX 480 nemesis) if I wanted them on the same side of their respective trays. I ended up using a front slot for one and a rear slot for the other. - The reservoir mount: Im not sure which brand pump/reservoir Corsair was aiming at, but I have two EKWB D5 pump/reservoir combo units, and I could not mount both units natively with EK's mount kit because there were not enough holes positioned in the back plate of the case in this area. I luckily bought the EK mounting rings just in case and ended up using them. - This box is HEAVY ! - Did not include ANY case fans--at this price a couple of exhaust fans would seem fair I know that several of the listed cons are "my" cons based on my build, so take them with a grain of salt. I included photos of the finished product, and I was extremely happy with the looks of my build. This was my first watercool build using rigid tubing and having a wide open area in the case made measuring and placing the tubes a breeze. ... show more
