  • Decent little saw
I have a big, plug-in, reciprocating saw from a major brand name. It's a monster and has saved my rear more times than I can count. It cuts through shock absorber mounting bolts like a hot knife through butter and takes down walls with no effort. But it's big, heavy, and requires extension cords. So, for a while now I've been thinking about getting a battery powered unit for little jobs. I saw this and thought it'd be nice because it's compact. This is a pretty good little unit as long as your expectations are reasonable. This isn't the saw to cut through inch thick hardened steel or take down a 20 foot wall. This is a light duty saw for small jobs. It's compact, reasonably light-weight, and easy to handle. I gave it four stars for a couple of reasons. One is that it doesn't seem to fit every type of blade. I have a bunch of blades, from various manufacturers, for various types of work. My favorite blades are pretty heavy duty and last a long time. These blades are a little thicker than most, which makes them more rigid. They fit every reciprocating saw I've tried them in but they won't fit in this saw. Only the thinner blades will fit. Not a big deal, as I've said, this is a light duty saw so light duty blades make sense. The other is that it vibrates a lot more than I'd expect. It seems like half it's energy is going into vibrating and half into cutting. It would get real tiring after just a few cuts. But it cut through a 2x4 well enough and the battery didn't lose any charge from the cut. So it works, and it's light and compact. Pretty much everything I'd want in a short, quick, job. If you're looking for an inexpensive, compact, reciprocating saw this is a good choice. ... show more

  • Better than my name brand saws. A mighty little workhorse.
I’m impressed with the performance of this saw and really enjoy the ease of blade changes. Normally I stick to big box store, name brand cordless tools, but quite frankly my ryobi saw like this and my larger cordless ryobi sawzall let me down. Both use a lever system for blade releases and both failed. My new ryobi sawzall actually started smoking and seized up in its first hour of use. Meanwhile, this saw kept going. First of all, this saw will accept the most commonly found blades out there. The quick release mechanism this saw uses is my favorite as I have others with the same release and none have ever failed. This saw is pretty light - weighed in at 49.8 ounces with battery attached. It is easy to hold in my hand and nicely compact. It has a small LED worklight that will shine onto your workpiece while in use. You get one battery, a couple blades, the saw and charger. The carry case has an extra pocket or two for extra batteries. I tortured this saw quite a bit using it to cut through shallow tree roots up to 6 inches in diameter. Out of a 60 minute time frame, I had this saw running with a 9 inch pruning blade on it for 40 minutes. The saw has the power to handle what I threw at it. The only limitation is actually the battery. The battery has protection built in and will shut down if overheated or during a prolonged duty cycle. For those using this to cut a piece of wood, PVC or metal just a few times within a short period, this won’t affect you. But for anyone using it like I did, you will need to swap out batteries to let the ones you are cycling through cool down as they shut themselves off. As for the batteries, I have acquired for review a number of off brand mini chainsaws, impact wrenches, sanders and orbital polishers. All are made in China, and all use the very same battery pack as this saw. I had 6 total on hand, so I was able to change them out and keep going for 3 hours today. I would suggest finding a way to get an extra battery though. As for value, I am more than satisfied with this saw. I really pushed it hard and it just kept going, rarely bogging down even on 6 inch diameter tree roots. Of course I believe its intended use is for much lighter duty, but I feel this saw shouldn't let anyone down. ... show more

  • Works very well
I currently have a Harbor Freight older corded reciprocating saw that has seen better days and wanted something lighter and more maneuverable. This model seems to fulfill what I wanted at a very reasonable price. I feel that for a DIY person who only needs this tool occasionally it would be great. The reason I say that is due to the size of the battery, its only a 18v 2.0Ah which means it won't hold a charge as long as a 5.0Ah battery will. The size of the saw and the way its shaped is perfect for me. Its light weight and angled so you can get into tight places. My Harbor Freight one is about 3 times the size and not nearly as maneuverable. It comes in a nice little canvas carrying case to keep your charger and extra saw blades together. The trigger does have a lock on it so you won't accidentally run it, the saw is also a variable speed so you can start out slowly if need be then give it the guns once you start your cut. Changing your blades is also a snap taking less than 10 seconds, simply rotate the tip, drop you blade in and let go, its now locked in place. I really wish it would have come with at least a 4.0Ah battery for longer usage as such I only gave it 4 stars. Overall though I feel its a great little saw without breaking your wallet on a DeWalt or other high end brand. ... show more

  • As expected
I picked up this Cordless Reciprocating Saw to be used on a little at-home project. The challenge with sawzalls like these is keeping the pressure right on the line you want to cut without bending and breaking the blade. This saw has a guard that if placed with the right amount of pressure will give the the cut you want and need. The saw is easy to handle and the tool isn't too heavy nor does it feel weird in the hand, as some of the older sawzall versions did. Overall, if you're looking for a good cordless reciprocating saw at a good price and that'll work reliably, then this is a great option. ... show more
