  • Worked well plugged between my HP laptop and a 27 ...
Worked well plugged between my HP laptop and a 27 inch monitor and captured the video in MP4 format, around 4 gb for 1 hour of video in NTFS format on a 256 gb memory stick. When you stop recording, you must wait until the LED turns permanently blue before removing the memory stick otherwise the file will be absent or corrupt. It helps to see progress if your memory stick has an activity led as well. Normally takes a few seconds. Advisory: An update to the above is that this capture box does seem to have issues with either the format used. Here's my experience to date - PNY 256 gb USB3 stick, NTFS formatted - Works fine Patriot 64 gb USB3 stick, exFAT32 formatted - no file saved when opened on windows machine but gives the impression its capturing Sandisk 16 gb USB3 formatted NTFS - Works fine (This is the version that runs hot) Eaget USB2 Generic 64gb formatted NTFS - Works fine. Further update - Patriot memory stick re-formatted to NTFS worked fine. I've since tried it on a Intel TV stick device based on a Processor Z3735F instead of my HP Envy using a USB to Lan adapter to ensure a good internet connection and that works fine as well. Conclusion - exFAT32 not supported by HD capture box. ... show more

  • Excellent product with limitations
Does what it says and is easy to operate. To switch between 720 to 1080 you must first hold the button down for around 4-5 seconds until light changes color (green is 720 and blue is 1080). Drive must be properly formatted to NTFS file system to avoid video being broken up into smaller segments (This is not hard). Records from sources you want to record from (but probably shouldn't) lol. Instructions were easy to follow but very limited. Customer service is adequate but email only and requires 48 return time. Comes with an HDMI cable. Does not come with a USB storage device. Will record only - will not play back anything. You must use a separate computer or other device to play what you've recorded. Unable to find out how large of a USB storage device I can use. I tried a 4 tb and it would not work. A 32 gb USB flash drive works but it just too small for practical use. I wrote the company and they said I could use up to a 128 gb USB drive but again this was just too small to be of any real use so I purchased a 1 tb USB external HD and it works fine. I have ordered a 2 tb off of Amazon and will update this review when it comes in and let you know if it works or not. There is no scheduling function. You must physically push the button to start and stop recording. No remote control. Device must remain on and plugged in just to watch tv (even when not recording) or unplugged which is a little inconvenient. It records in an easily recognizable MP4 format. Box has the "rubbery Matt finish" that keeps it in place but it does get a little warm so I personally would not recommend leaving it on for extended periods of time. Overall I love this unit and would definitely purchase again. I plan on purchasing another but I'm waiting to see if they address some of the issues before I drop another $100.00 on something without a remote and that can't be easily bypassed when not in use. I would definitely recommend this product ... show more

  • Great at capturing video via HDMI
I loved that this was so easy to hook up and record. I disconnected the HDMI video cable that ran from my cable box to my TV and connected it to the ClearClick device. Then I added a new HDMI cable to connect the ClearClick device up to my TV. Plugged in power, inserted USB stick, turned it on, then started recording by pressing the Start/Stop button. It's that simple to capture. At the end of the program I clicked the Start/Stop button again to stop recording. The NCH VideoPad video editing software that came with it was okay, but seemed a little glitchy. I checked the NCH web site, found an update, installed it, and it worked much better. A couple hints for those looking to use this: 1. Works with both USB 2.0 and 3.0 sticks but I recommend using 3.0. As far as this device goes it doesn't matter, but when you go to copy it from the stick to your PC it will copy much faster if the stick and your PC are both using USB 3.0. 2. The unit will not pass the HDMI video to your TV or monitor if it is turned off. It does not need to be recording and doesn't even need a memory stick installed, it just needs to be turned on. 3. The unit gets quite warm when turned on, I am guessing the bottom gets up to the 90F-100F degree range, so keep it in well ventilated area. 4. The recorded files were not compressed or minimally compressed (non-lossy) MP4 files so they were quite large, approximately 4.5GB per hour @ 720p resolution (slightly larger for 1080p). I used the VideoPad software to re-encode to a compressed h.264 .MOV file at the same resolution and that reduced the file size about 75% to approximately 1GB size per hour of recorded video. I couldn't ask for or expect better results than this at this price point. Tech support for the device was provided via email and was excellent. ... show more
