  • Installed on 2008 F150
Color: BLACK Size: SET OF 4 Style: 5002 SERIES
LOOKS/DESIGN: These are by far one of the best looking steps I’ve seen available. While the vast majority are rounded and curvy, these are angular and full of sharp creases and angles. This makes them much more aggressive and “tough” looking. Add the nice logo and the textured black finish and you have one very handsome set of steps. The texture on the foothold has tons of grip, so I don’t foresee any issues with slipping while trying to climb into the truck. Overall, a solid 5/5 for looks. QUALITY/DURABILITY: I hesitate to say anything too definite about durability and overall quality just yet since the steps were just put on a day ago. I also can’t say anything about the included hardware because I decided not to use any of it after reading many reviews about the screws and bolts shearing off. I just went ahead and ordered grade 8 hardware right off the bat so I didn’t have to worry about it. However I did notice a couple things about the steps during the installation process that concerned me. First off, I question the long term durability of the paint. It seemed to scuff up very easily and chipped right off where I accidentally bumped two of the steps against each other lightly. It appears to be very thin, and I fully expect to have to repaint these steps within the next couple years if they last that long, which brings me to my other concern. Initially the steps felt very heavy duty and substantial. When I drilled into them though, I was surprised at how easily the drill got through the aluminum. I know aluminum is soft, but it seemed like it was just a bit too easy to drill through the steps. Also, when I bumped those two steps together like I mentioned earlier, the aluminum dented very easily. These two things made me think that the aluminum used may not be the best quality. However, with all that being said, the steps haven’t actually shown any signs of breaking or being poorly made. I jumped on each one after installing them and they only flexed slightly. I am 260 pounds, so that’s pretty impressive if you ask me. Being as heavy as I am though, I can’t help but wonder if I’ll go to get in the truck one day and have a step snap. Only time will tell. Overall, I’d give a 3.5/5 for quality at this time since it hasn’t been long enough to know anything for sure. INSTALLATION: This is from my experience installing the steps on a 2008 Ford F150. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT buy these if you’re looking for an easy project. If you’re not a handy person, I would recommend getting something else that’s made specifically for your vehicle. With the steps being universal, I expected to have some work to do to get them installed properly. What I didn’t realize is just how tough it would be. The first step took me about 4 hours to figure out how to best install it. Each of the others took about 45 minutes each after figuring everything out. You’ll have to drill into your vehicle’s frame, and most likely the steps as well. I even had to cut parts of my frame away to make room for the steps to seat against the frame correctly. It’s also nearly impossible to get a full size drill with full size drill bits into the spaces where you need to drill the holes. Having a shorter hammer drill with stubby bits would be ideal. Overall, I’d give the install a 2/5 simply because of the difficulty of the process. It’s not the fault of the steps, either. In fact, I think they are very well designed for fitting a wide range of vehicles. It’s obvious that they put a lot of time into making sure these were indeed universal. But because of this, these and any other universal steps are going to be very difficult to install. Tips For Installing on 2004-2008 F150: Here are some tips for anybody putting these on a 2004-2008 F150. This may help other people too if your frame is the same. 1. Use the factory running board mounting holes to your advantage. These are the holes drilled in the pinch-welded lip at the very bottom of the frame. I used one factory hole per step so I only had to drill one myself. This also made sure that both front and both rear steps were in the the same location relative to each other on each side of the truck. 2. Cut a notch in the pinch weld where the mounting plates of the steps are going to sit(circled in fourth picture). If you don’t, the mounting plates of the steps won’t sit flush against the frame. You’ll need a metal cutoff wheel for this. CONCLUSION: All things considered, I think these are great steps for the money. Once you get past the difficult installation process, they really do look great and save you a lot of money over something made specifically for your vehicle. Time will tell if they hold up well or not, but for now I am pleased. They beat the heck out of the factory Ford running boards for sure. ... show more

  • 2022 Ram 1500 - Sturdy, but not easy to get on
Color: BLACK Size: SET OF 4 Style: 5002 SERIES
First, the hardware included is junk. Go get some thick sheet metal screws, and a couple nuts that are the same size as included, but quality. I used 1 inch long 1/4" sheet metal screws. The included instructions don't apply for a '19+ ram 1500. Plus, I couldn't be paid to bend the rocker panel flange as described in the instructions. On the rocker panel, there are existing bolts for factory steps that you can anchor 1 of the arms of the hoop step. BUT but you need to drill a hole BELOW the existing one on each arm to mount them here. For the EXISTING bolt, I used a 5/16 bit. It will slide over the existing bolt and you can use a washer/nut to secure it. For all other holes you have to make besides this mounting point, use a 7/32 bit so the 1/4 sheet metal bolts can bite. Make sure before you drill the hole for the existing mounting bolt that it is low enough on step that the other arm will still be flush with the rocker panel. There's not a lot of room to work with and you can very easily go too low and drill into the curve of the rocker panel. You'll have to drill 1 hole above the stock mounting point and 2 holes into the rocker panel through the arms of the steps. I recommend securing the hoop step with the single existing bolt to get it to fit & level visually to see where you must drill holes through the hoop step arm. Do it through the step directly into the rocker panel in 1 step. That way, you don't drill too low of a hole into the step and end up coming off the flush of the rocker panel. Along this, i'd recommend something to secure from rust. Holes = rust. I used some Rust O-Leum spray-on bedliner over the drilled holes, on the screws, and on top of everything. I did about 4-5 coats on top of the rocker panel/drilled holes. Sprayed the bolts and drilled them in while wet to mount the step. Then 4-5 coats on top of the mounting points with the bolts in, making sure to get around all the edges of the mount for as much moisture prevention as possible. Tedious process, but necessary. Once they are on, I was surprised how sturdy they are. Oddly enough, though they are mounted the same in the front as the back (mirrored) there seems to be a little more bend in the rear from the rocker panel. They are still super sturdy. I'm sure this also comes from the non-included screws, but you can jump on these things and they won't bust off and instead shake the truck. I'm basically 200 pounds. I wish that they would update the install instructions. If you look on the website at these steps, the picture is of a 5th gen Ram! I didn't need any of the included hardware. Literally none of it. It was unnecessary. ... show more
