  • Decent, but annoying to manage
My primary goal was to get a car seat that was high in safety that I could afford. This one fit the bill. After having it for a little over a year though I’ve come to begrudgingly use it. We’ve not been in a car accident, so I can’t speak to its resilience, but over all it has kept kiddo secure and it’s very sturdy. As for the frustrating things. It’s a beast, it needs to be heavy and reinforced, but the wing backs on it are too wide. They really don’t need to be. We have a CRV and with this thing in the middle facing reverse only 1 person can buckle in next too it, with it facing forward no one can. So your 5 seater is now only a 3 seater. Also, the “keep cool” technology for the fabric is a lie. Kiddo is constantly overheating and sweating in this thing; summers are brutal. These issues alone make me want o buy another car seat even though kiddo is only halfway through its lifespan. ... show more

Color: Circa
Definitely NOT my favorite! I bought this carseat mostly because I had done TONS of research and it was rated highest in safety and because of the materials it is made of, I could see it would be the safest. I had also spoken to many people who LOVED this seat. It was also said to be one of the easiest seats to move from vehicle to vehicle which we often need to do because we travel a lot. I had read it was heavy but knew my husband would have to be the one to install or move this seat because I am not strong and am tiny. (5' about 100 lbs) It came in a timely manor and appeared to be just as expected, very safe and padded but ultimately its not been favored by myself or my husband. Negative point 1-I drive a Chevy Cruze 2012 and this seat is massive!! I do think it will fit better once it can be in the forward facing position but as for traveling as a family in this car, no chance! My husband can't move the seats back far enough to get the desired amount of leg room. He says he feels like he is in a toy car, driver or passenger seat. Most times he ride in the backseat just to have enough leg room, and bonus bonding with our little guy. Negative point 2- Installing this seat was not at all the ease everyone said it would be. We watched video tutorial after video tutorial and these small women did it all with ease. My husband had quite a frustrating time getting this seat in. He has since found that upon strapping the seatbelt through the bottom compartment to hold the seat in place on the backseat you cannot pull the seat belt as tight as possible. He naturally thought the tighter the more secure therefore the better. Because the seatbelt was pulled so tightly you could not close the "click tight seat" tightly or at all. Thus, you have to leave a little slack in order for the seat to fully close which doesn't seem as safe. It's still tight and secure on the seat of the car but not as tight as possible. Negative point 3- The straps are almost always uneven which makes it very difficult to tighten the straps fully because one side is SO snug while the other is not. My little boy always looks at us like we are doing something mean to him when we tighten to hear the "click" but one side is so much tighter than the other. Negative point 4- As I stated before, I am tiny and not very strong. Tightening the harness is very VERY difficult for me. I have to climb inside the car and really get some leverage in order to make it the safest for my baby. The "click" noise you are supposed to hear upon pulling the harness strap between the legs never happened when I first secured my baby in this seat. I honestly didn't remember about the sound (having read so many reviews) until my husband strapped our son in and I heard the sound. Luckily we don't go very many places without my husband but when we do it is a HUGE struggle to secure the straps appropriately. Many times I will not loosen the harness once we have driven somewhere and my husband has tightened it to where it needs to be; this way I know it is set for the next quick trip to the store between big outings and he will be safe. It is a struggle to get him in after it has already been tightened but I feel this is safer than me loosening the straps and bring to get it as tight as possible which is not tight enough. (Mostly due to my lack of strength but also possibly because the straps are uneven or it just isn't an easy thing to do.) Overall we not super satisfied with this seat. I felt like I needed to try it for a few months (purchased in October) before I could review it. Now I believe it is too late to return even though we are not satisfied. I do think it is probably the safest seat out there and it does seem to be made VERY WELL but as for our personal opinions we are not pleased. I am hoping within the next few months it will get easier as we get used to it or will be that great seat we were looking for once we turn it to face forward. I bought this seat for my first born and if we have other children I don't think I would purchase this again. Disappointing. UPDATE: Facing forward this seat is not as bad as when it’s backwards. My husband has found his niche when swapping vehicles but still has to put all his body weight into closing the seat. It is still bulky facing forward but again, I’m pretty sure it’s just my little car and the middle seat in the back is just tiny. No one else can ride in the backseat and use a seatbelt because the seat overlaps thenother buckles. Also, just recently the “click tight” latch circle gets jammed. My husband has to get a screw driver or other little tool to sort of unlock the click tight setting in order to close is tightly and set the circle straight. Still not my favorite seat but for that money we have dealt with it. Plus side, seems comfortable for my little guy and we haven’t had any complaints from him so I guess that’s what matters since we aren’t sitting in it. ... show more

  • Use pool noodle for newborn
Despite most convertibles market them suitable from birth, there is a caveat, even the most reclined position isn't as reclined as an infant car seat. I learned it the hard way after switching my 4 month old from infant car seat to Graco Extend2fit. Even though the ball in its level bar is strictly inside the infant range(a circle the size of the level ball), it's still not that reclined which makes my baby scream all the road trip because his head and neck control weren't ready for this level of recline. If I use a pool noodle the ball would be out of infant range, so bad design of Graco. At first I thought it was because of its head support and back support aren't flush so his head was lifted as if he was using a pillow, there are a lot of complains about this issue in that product reviews. Then I purchased this Britax Advocate because the back support are more close in line with head support (still not flush but close), I personally went to Target to check it out before purchase. But as my photo shows, the seat is fully reclined and the level indicator is within the infant range, but it is still not as reclined as infant car seat and my baby still screamed. I decided to shelf the seat until he can sit up and two days ago I finally reinstalled it. This time he is happy in the seat and looking outside of window or sleeping, no crying anymore. The good thing in this Advocate level bar is the infant range is long and the manual says pool noodle can be used for better recline. So if I had to use it with infant, I would add pool noodle to make the black ball move more toward the infant icon and that should make the seat properly reclined for newborn or younger baby who cannot sit up. Aside from that, this seat is great over all. It is heavy, but I wouldn't move it a lot. It feels well constructed and can provide good protection for our precious little one. The seat cushion is very comfortable. The harness is smooth to adjust but the click indicator often goes off too early. I love the crotch pad to prevent the buckle going under baby. As for the cool flow, we just started using it and we have heat on, my baby feels warm when taking out but not sweaty. Would know better when summer comes. My son sweat a lot in his infant car seat so hopefully this one is better. The clicktight installation DO require some strength to close the seat when seat belt is routed and slack removed, it's not effortless as many expected, but still much easier than the latch method. Some complained about the harness being too short but it actually can be extended inside the seat so right now it's plenty for mine. It's also aircraft rated but who would bring this heavy thing to a plane? :) ... show more
