  • So Far, So Good
Style: Intek Engine
I bought this to replace another B&S Intek that came on a 28" Snapper rear-engine rider I bought used. I couldn't get the old engine, which looked like it had seen some hard use, to run smoothly, so I decided to replace it. After clicking around on the B&S website I found a link to send an e-mail to ask which engine I should get for my intended application. Within an hour I got a response that said this is the one I needed. I ordered it, & it was at my house in less than 3 days. I followed a YouTube video by dieselworld that showed him putting a very similar engine on a very similar mower. I ran into some confusion, though, b/c there are more wires coming off this engine than the old one. This engine has a wire for the carb solenoid, which the old engine didn't have, so I didn't know what to do. There are YT vids that show how to disable small engine carb solenoids, but I really didn't want to do that. The old engine & the new one both had Nikki carbs, so I got the idea of simply switching carb bowls, which worked just fine. Problem solved. :^) I had trouble getting the engine to start after I got everything hooked up. I finally figured out that it was b/c I somehow flooded it. My fault, easy fix. Once I got that straightened out, my 14-yr.-old daughter was able to start it w/ 1 pull after I showed her how. That being the case, I'm not even going to bother replacing my dead mower battery, at least not for now. Today I used it to mow my yard for the 1st time, & it performed flawlessly. Hopefully I'll get years of trouble-free service out of it. I'll amend this review if anything significant comes up. IMPORTANT: This engine comes w/out oil in it, so it's on you to put some in before you start it. My experience w/ small engines is that the owner's manual calls for a little more than the engine actually needs. The manual for this one says 42 to 44 oz. I started out w/ 40, ran it for a few minutes, waited a couple more, then checked it. Right on the money. If you start off w/ what the manual suggests, you'll probably end up having to take some back out, which is a hassle. Also, don't forget or neglect to change the oil after the 1st 5 hrs. of operation. After that, it's every 50 hrs. or once a year. Happy mowing! ;^) P.S. If you're planning to use this engine for a Snapper rear-engine rider, then save your muffler, b/c the one on this engine won't work. There's not enough clearance between the muffler & one of the bars that enable you to stand the mower on end. You could simply remove the bar, but I was unwilling to do that, b/c the ability to stand up a Snapper RER is one of my favorite features of the mower. In order to preserve that feature you'll need to swap the mufflers, which, unfortunately, is a real pain. :^( ... show more

  • Still early, but good repower option at this point.....
Style: Intek Engine
In brief, inherited an older Snapper LT100 riding mower/tractor with a 23 hp V-Twin Briggs. Didn't realize it at the time, but it was in worse shape than I was led to believe. So I stripped it down and out, keeping only the most minimal electrics and ditched the mower deck while also installing an ATV rear platform (https://www.amazon.com/Great-Day-MLRR60P-Rack-Mighty-Lite/dp/B019I69WRI/ref=asc_df_B019I69WRI/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312195936700&hvpos=1o3&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14356294789367939378&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1021434&hvtargid=pla-571078007417&psc=1). Finally, the engine died as well and I had no interest in repairing it. Since my wife mostly uses it as a substitute ATV/UTV, it did not need huge amounts of horsepower. 11.5 hp from this single-cylinder Intek seemed like it would do the trick. It arrived in only a few days after ordering. As is usually the case, the wiring had to be figured out as the Snapper had extra wires for all of its bells and whistles, but I soon identified only the essentials. With the old engine out of the way, it took me maybe 3 hours to get the new one installed and up and running.....the bolt holes pretty much matched the previous engine and, as the new engine was smaller, it was easier to insert and tighten the bolts as compared to the older, beefy V-twin. No problem for the new engine to power the hydrostatic transmission of our "FTV" (Flat terrain vehicle) and it still gets up moderate inclines like a champ. The engine runs smooth and quiet, started immediately on first try, and the single-piece choke/throttle assembly is a nice replacement for our separate choke/throttle cables from before. I like the option of a pull-start if something is wonky with the starting/charging system. Time will tell if this is a reliable choice....so far I can highly recommend the engine. ... show more

  • Briggs Engine
Style: Intek Engine
Overall, I like the motor. There were no plug ends to go from the connectors on the motor to attach them to my equipment. No wiring diagram to tell what and where to connect to the motor. If you're buying this for an older style motor with recoil start that is no longer made, you'll need to replace the carburetor bowl with the one from your current carb or wire it in to provide power so the carb will send fuel to the motor. There is no wiring diagram. You will need to attach an external shutoff and no wiring connector to do so. Mine is installed on a walk behind brush hog. The motor works great. I haven't set up the electric start. If I find anything else I will update my review. ... show more

  • Lawn tractor wiring
Style: Intek Engine
The engine replaced my 1980’s vintage Craftsman engine. The balance of the 38” lawn tractor was solid, so I gave this engine a try. The wiring harness needed an upgrade in order to run the carburetor solenoid. It took a while to figure out the wiring. I started with the tractors instruction manual which had the old wiring harness diagram. The 3 position key switch was a problem - no contact for the carburetor solenoid. So, I ended up running a diode from the switch red colored wire from the key switch RUN terminal (used new red battery charge wire from engine) to the grey carburetor solenoid wire. This gives the carb 12 VDC in the RUN position. I ran a second diode from the key switch START terminal at the starter solenoid input wire harness (white harness wire in my case) to the grey carburetor solenoid wire. This gives the carburetor solenoid 12 VDC in the START position. Black wire from key switch OFF position terminal to black engine magneto wire. Large red wire to starter. Made the harness very neat to finish up. The engine started and runs fine. I must mention I could not get the original double pulley off the old engine. I bought a new pulley to simplify my installation. ... show more
