  • The drive installed without issue and works perfectly
Review is for: Blu-Ray DVD Drive KES-450A KEM-450AAA Laser Lens Replacement for Sony Playstation3 PS3 SLIM CECH-2001A, CECH-2001B, CECH-2101A, CECH-2101B Models 120, 250 GB I have the PS3 Slim CECH-2101A, which uses the KEM-450AAA optic Exactly what I needed to fix the problem of the PS3 optical drive accepting a disk, nothing would happen for 15 seconds or so and then it made a noise like it was trying to eject the disk, which it didn't actually do. I also bought a screwdriver set for the security screws; I ended up using a couple of the phillips bits, too. I thought that a prying kit would be a good idea, but really only used one of the aluminum blades and the tweezers for this swap. - TEKTON 2830 Everybit (TM) Precision Bit and Driver Kit for Electronic and Precision Devices, 27-Piece - Vastar 14 Pieces Professional Opening Pry Tool Repair Kit with Non-Abrasive Nylon Spudgers, Anti-Static Tweezers and Additional Screwdrivers This took me about 30 minutes to complete. You need to take the power cable from the OLD drive and I used the old cover because it already had the white ribbon cables taped to it. The drive is perfectly quiet and works without any trouble at all. ... show more

  • Highly recommended but you MUST swap out internal circuit board, AND watch out for the ribbon cable clasps
This worked great on my PS3 Slim (CECH 2001). This was my first attempt at replacing a drive on a PS3. You can find detailed directions online that you should follow, but the basic steps: 1. Take apart your PS3 (note that there are three "security" screws that take a special type of Torx bit that has a hole in the middle; however, I was able to use a tiny jewler's flat-tipped screwdriver to extract these; they are NOT in very tight thank goodness). Also note that there are screws underneath plastic inserts that you have to pry out. Not hard, but not obvious. Remove the top cover of the PS3. 2. Take out the internal power supply (2 screws, and you have to disconnect a couple of cables). 3. Remove the "bad" drive. You have to take out 1 screw on the back of the drive (which I forgot to put back in, but works fine anyway!). You also have to disconnect several cables, and re-route a couple of wires that run "over" the drive (you have to tear the paper strip holding these down). IMPORTANT - when removing the tiny ribbon cables, be sure to first experiment with flipping up the flaps that hold in the cable; the cable does not just plug in using resistance, it is held in place by these little plastic "clamps." I was stupid and just pulled the cables out, but had to learn how the clasps worked when installing the new drive. 4. You MUST take apart the new drive, remove the mini circuitboard on the inside, and swap it out with the old one. This is where you have SEVERAL of those ribbon cables that you must be very careful with. 5. Perform the reverse steps and put everything back together ... and viola, you should have a functioning PS3! All and all the repair took me about an hour. I spent nearly $60 on the new drive, but is well worth it. In summary, highly recommended if you are experiencing drive failure on your PS3. ... show more

  • Perfect! Fixed my PS3
Someone posted a video link to a YouTube video showing how to swap this out. I was able to do it myself in less than 45 minutes. Got my PS3 to work again! Perfect item.

  • Highly Recommended
The Blu-Ray drive for the PlayStation 3 slim is great for anyone having issues with reading game discs. As an avid gamer, I know how frustrating it can be when a part starts to malfunction. This drive is the perfect replacement for the models listed in the product description. With the relatively easy installation, low cost, and lifespan, I highly recommended this purchase. The installation is not exactly a straight swap. The old drive has a circuit board that has valuable data that is needed to run the PS3. A switch of the circuit board is needed in order for the system to operate. Fortunately, the seller has included in the package some helpful instructions on how to do this. If supplementary instructions are needed, there are many useful tutorial videos on YouTube, which will take you step by step. A very small Phillips head screwdriver is also required in order to open the PS3, as well as the hard drive. The screwdriver can be bought on Amazon or on another website for less than ten dollars, so it is very cheap. Once the circuit board has been switched from the old drive to the new one, then the hardest part is over. All that is needed is to put every back together and you should have a working Blu-Ray drive. The price of the product is very affordable. As any gamer knows, the price of games and other accessories has been slowly rising in the last ten years. For only $60 dollars, which is the same price as games and controllers, this is a great price for a product, which should now last a good amount of time. A used Blu-Ray drive can also be purchased for a lower price of $50 dollars but I would recommend buying a new one. The lifespan is also very good considering the price. Mine lasted about six or seven years until it finally started to break down. For only spending $60 dollars for a device that will last you that long, it is well worth the price. I hope this information is helpful when you are making your final decision. ... show more

  • Blue Ray works flawlessly after Googling Instructions...
This was an Awesome Learning experience as I ordered this Blu-Ray as a Replacement in my sons PS3. At first I thought it didn't work, there were no notes in the packaging or ordering to say that all Blue-Ray players are proprietary to the original PS3 coding system. I installed it nothing happened, we then googled the installation process and Lo-N-Behold there is was, the mother board must match the original system, review this link to help you change it out. https://youtu.be/_aLYwLOuKto After we Changed the Board and reinstalled it, it worked flawlessly... Thank you Amazon for making it possible!!! ... show more
