I had an electric B&D weed eater back in the 90s when my house had only a small need for edging as most was taken care of with the mower and I remember it worked pretty well if a bit underpowered. Since that house I've insisted on only gas powered yard tools as electric is just too inconvenient for anything not right next to the house's power outlets. I recently moved into a place that includes landscaping services but I have a small area out back that landscaping doesn't care for so I needed something small for light jobs again and picked this up with memories of my old cheap one from 20yrs ago that should do just fine. This thing has more power than I ever remember my old electric B&D weed eater having and is kind of overkill for the little 50sqft area I need it for. I expected the telescoping and twisting handle to be janky and wobbly but nothing could be further from the truth. It's easy to handle and easy to adjust. It's light, cheap, and powerful. Way better than I needed or expected. You're not going to start a landscaping business with it or tackle a forest of a back yard of overgrowth, but I could actually see myself using it for a decent sized yard if I needed to. And if I'm only going to use it 2-3 times a year I can't complain about the price either. ... show more

I bought the BESTA510 CORDED trimmer. It is a replacement for the cordless trimmer of the same type. I have used it twice, but already prefer it over the cordless version. It has around 3 times the power which speeds up the job. I have a 1/4 acre residential lot and the extension cord is no problem. The cordless model, which had the same features, was a fine trimmer although a bit under-powered. The batteries began losing running time almost immediately and after three years will no longer hold a charge. I am very pleased with the CORDED trimmer and it cost me less than the price of replacement batteries (2). I wouldn't recommend this model for cutting heavy weeds. It is great for lawn trimming, but is not designed to be a "weed whacker". ... show more

I found the battery-operated weed wackers very heavy, and they cost twice as much. Weed wackers with blades include a lot of risks, not just of cutting oneself but also of being damaged by hitting a rock or a branch you didn't see. This model, one of the very few of its kind, uses a string, works great on the first try, is easy to learn how to use, and the $11 bonus pack is worth it for the extra materials (more string, a spare cover for the bottom). It was quick and easy to use, very economical, and didn't exhaust me carrying it. You do need to buy a long extension cord or two depending on where you're using it in relation to an outlet, but the protective guide attacked makes it easy not to get the cord under the matchine. ... show more

This is my second B&D string trimmer. The first one had push button string advance and lasted many years. I was nervous about this new auto advance function and it does use more string than my previous trimmer, but it works well otherwise. Buy spools in bulk at $1 per spool, not $8 for the B&D brand. I was worried this was too good to be true but thankfully it wasn't. For only $50 you can take care of your weeds easily. Comes out of the box almost ready to go. Powerful enough for to do a whole yard of weeds. It's lighter than a lot of other so it's comfortable to hold to an extent. I also didn't find it to be overly noisy. I love this Black and Decker line trimmer! I’m an elderly woman, and It’s easy for me to use. Not too large, or awkward; and it does an amazing job of cutting long grass and weeds. The line spools it takes lasted through much more trimming than the spools my last one used. Being electrically powered, I don’t have to stop and change the battery while using it. It’s light enough that I can do a large portion of my yard without having to stop to rest. And no running out of, or having to buy and fill with, gas and oil! I had a different brand of line trimmer for a couple of years. It was battery operated, and I always had to have one battery charging while using another. It didn’t take long for the battery to die, and I had to charge the dead one while using the one I just took off the charger! The cutting line spools also had to be changed at least once, sometimes twice, before I finished the job! I highly recommend this Black and Decker Line Trimmer!! ... show more
