I've been wearing birkenstock milanos for about 20 years. I have a lot of sensory issues that make finding the right shoe a big challenge, so when i find something that works, i tend to latch on, and birks REALLY work for me. I've always felt that the standard milano that i wear was serviceable and comfortable--by far the most important characteristics in a shoe--the visual has always seemed...well, clunky. I'm fine with with clunky if it's comfortable, but if they could look a little more attractive... Reader, these maintain the standard birkenstock comfort, my biggest worry, and might even be MORE comfortable than your regular milano style. The foot bed is a regular width birk foot bed, not a narrow, so whatever you usually wear in birks will be fine in these. I'm not getting any rubs or uncomfortable binding spots, and if anything, i think i find it even easier than usual to get my foot into that sweet spot in the foot bed. And yes, i think they're more delicate looking than your standard birk, if a little slower to put on because the ankle strap does need to be buckled every time. For newcomers to the world of birkenstocks, i should mention that birks, far more than most sandals, will only get more comfortable the more you wear them. The cork foot bed is designed to compress and mold to your foot over time, so they feel less like wearing shoes and more like standing barefoot in sand. I believe some studies may have even indicated that they're especially good at correcting for some foot issues. If the foot bed doesn't feel right at first, give them a few weeks of wear around the house to break in; it won't be long before they start leaping out of the closet and onto your feet. ... show more

    • Size down, but awesome sandal!
I originally ordered the Yara sandal in a size 39R because it said it would fit a US Women's size 9, but it was huge! I gave it to my cousin who is a size 10 and it fit her perfectly. I bought it again in the 38R and it fits perfectly! I have a bit of a wide foot, so it works for me. This is my first real pair of Birkenstocks, but after the breaking-in period, it's the most comfortable show I own, outside of my running shoes. The best part about the black patent is that I have been able to wear it out to dinner and nightclubs, and it feels sexy. I get compliments on these sandals all the time! I love this color called Tobacco in oiled leather the ankle straps and toe strap are soft and comfortable. I can't stress enough about ordering the correct size to provide the perfect metatarsal pad comfort. Sometimes you need to try different sizes to get the most comfort. These are worth the price.     • My feet couldn't possibly be happier!
My sandals were shipped on May 23rd and much to my dismay were not scheduled to be delivered until end of June, early July. I didn't realize when I placed my order that they would be coming all the way from Germany. I was excited and relieved when they arrived on my doorstep 5 days later on May 28th. They are perfect!! Beautiful and extremely well made. I have narrow feet and have trouble finding shoes that fit well. These sandals fit my feet like a glove! I wore them that day for a few hours and a few the next. They rubbed the spot just below by inside ankles but nothing that a little breaking in won't fix. I am looking forward to wearing these all summer!! ... show more

I absolutely LOVE these shoes!!! I'm normally a size 7 so that's what I ordered initially but the size 7 were too big so I sized down. Then I wore the size 6 everyday and they fit fine but just be aware that there's a gradual break in period and it might hurt your feet a bit. Definitely has arch support and comfort. I have a couple pairs of the original version of these (with no ankle strap) and I wear them all the time . . . love them. However, I wanted a pair more securely affixed to my feet for walking all day on cobblestones and up and down lots of steps. These are not those. The ankle strap is there just to give a hint of the gladiator look, not to hold your foot in. Yes, the shoes would stay on if you tried to kick them off, but the straps don’t really hold the shoe to your foot. They are just as floppy/flappy when I walk at the originals, and not as flattering. ... show more

I loved the way my foot felt on the bed of the shoe. I loved the style of the shoe. The only issue was the width was slightly too wide, and on my left foot, the length was a little too long. I’ve never had a problem with my shoes fitting differently on each foot. I purchased the size 40 woman’s- equivalent of my size 9. I have 8 pairs of Birks. I can wear a 36 or a 37. I bought these in a 37 think my foot might slide around more and this is the largest 37 I’ve ever had in a Birkenstock. They do seem to run larger for some reason even though they are literally supposed to be a standard 37 measurement. Still happy but if I had a do over I’d have gone with the 36. FYI American shoes size is a wide 7. If you’re like me, definitely get a 36. ... show more
