  • Exactly what I wanted
I like the PSVR, but I also love cleaning up after usage. Meaning, I don't ever leave my HMU out. So every time I want to play I have to plug in the two cables for the HMU, connect headphones, put on the headset, put on the headphones, and spend a lot of time redjusting both until they feel comfortable. Done playing? Great, now I have to take off the headphones, put them and it's cable away, put away the HMU. It just becomes enough of a hassle that, subconsciously I stopped playing PSVR games as much as I used to. Didn't stop buying new games...but just never took the time to play them. Well these headphones helped change that, and made the effort to break out the PSVR experience just one step easier, and better! After trying my friend's Valve Index HMU, one thing I really liked was the speakers that hang down (off-ear headphones), so I went looking for something I could add to my PSVR and not have to have either 1) Over the ear hadphones (always a small nuisance to get on and off over the HMU) 2) the supplied ear buds as those aren't really sanitary to share with others, and, frankly uncomfortable. First off: These will never sound better than over the ear headphones. They let surrounding sound in. BUT, they still sound better (to me) than ear buds, thanks to their larger sized driver. They can push a lot of volume, and will help you still feel immersive. But if your kids or significant other (or pets) need you for something? They can actually talk to you, and you'll hear them, rather than them suddenly tapping you and scaring you half to death at the sneaky ninja-attack that just took place. I actually consider this a plus for me. Do they have a lot of bass? No, they do not, but the audio quality is still really clear, and, again, doesn't break immersion. They are comfortable. I have a friend that is absolutely opposed to on-ear headphones. I don't blame him, it feels like someone is constantly pressing on your ears. I share his sentiment, but until him, I never thought about on-ear headphones and why I tend to avoid them. Unlike the Valve Index's off-hear headphones, these do TOUCH your ears. When I showed him these, he was immediately turned off on the idea of them knowing that they will touch your ears. I can report, that unlike on-ear headphones, they do not PRESS against your hears. And, upon reflection, I'd say that's really the big issue with on-ear headphones: the constant pressure against your ears. Probably a big no-no for people who's ears stick out some. These sit very comfortably against your ears. The material they are made from is a faux rubber. Very soft. I can see these being an issue in the future, though, in regards to their longevity. Seems like the same type of material that cracks easily with age and just rips apart quickly. We'll see, though. Cabling, though, is somewhat of an issue, though I wouldn't blame these headphones, necessarily. They're made for both V1 & V2 PSVR headsets. I have a V2, so I bundled the excess cabling together with and using a velcro strap, bound it to the PSVR cable, so I only have to feel the weight of one cable. I then pushed the cable into the groove between the back plastic and padding on the bottom side, and used a little electrical tape to secure it. Not pretty (not hideous, though). It is the bottom side, and no one will see it. I left a little slack on each side for both headphones, so they could be adjusted by the wearer. Securing the cable to the back made it so it didn't dangle down the bottom, and made it MUCH easier to get the headset on and off easily, without having to makes sure the cable was in the right spot. THE WORST THING about these headphones is that, without taking them off, I can no longer use the awesome portable headset case I own. So I bought a stand, and will probably make a dust cover to keep the thing protected. OH WELL, small penance to having a better headset experience. I'd highly recommend other PSVR users to get these, when they're in stock. They should have been standard, in my opinion, and we'll see, I suppose, what the new PSVR (that's rumored to be out near PS5's launch) will do for standard audio options. ... show more

  • Comfort IS Important. Excellent product.
Let's be honest, these should already be included with the psvr helmet because it's obvious that once attached they feel absolutely spot on aesthetically and sonically. They are easy to attach with the side clips and the sound from them is again, spot on. I like the fact that I can still here sounds from the real world and to be honest when I try headphones with the helmet It can feel a bit too closed in and tight on your head, and heavy. These just feel right and whilst they make putting the psvr headset on a little bit more fiddly, once on everything feels comfortable and the way the Mantis is designed let's you have full control of were you put the sound... you can tweak the earphones to perfection to find the sweet spot and its not difficult you grab the earphone and physically tweak it till it sounds its best... takes about 2 seconds to adjust. Headphones are the answer if you want total immersion and mega bass but for me this is too full on and makes the helmet feel clamped to you're head, so this is the perfect solution if you can take a slight drop in immersion. The Bionik Mantis also doesn't impede on what I would say is the main selling point of the psvr... comfort. Everything still feels extremely comfortable when your set up correctly, and for me at least I think having the sound really close to the ear compared to using the tv sound helps enormously with motion sickness. I get motion sickness on Eve Valkyrie really bad, but only when I have either headphones or earplugs on... when I attach the Mantis its not half as bad. That might just be me but the Mantis definitely works on certain games. The only slight negatives are like I said before, it makes putting the headset on a bit fiddly (you have to hold wires off whilst you put the psvr on) and it does add a bit more weight to the front of the helmet, not much... only slightly noticeable. Everything else though is brilliant and they look right at home attached to the psvr headset. Highly recommended. ... show more
