    • Photochromatic Shield is great!
This is an excellent light weight helmet that seems to do everything well. The fit is snug as per previous posts...so you may want to go up a size. I wear a Med Shark Race-R Pro comfortably, but with this helmet I had to order a LG. The LG fits great, and even feels good after installing my Cardo Pack JBL speakers. It may be a bit nosier than my Shark helmet, but not by much. It seems to cool well, as I wore it yesterday while riding in upper 80's lower 90's temps, without getting overly hot (riding a 2016 Honda CBR1000RR SP). The helmet does not buffet or move around on your head at speed, and does a good job of staying in place. I do like the MIPS technology that Bell puts into their helmets. If you don't know what that is...watch a couple of You Tube videos or reviews on RevZilla, and you'll understand. The photochromatic shield changes quickly from completely clear, to a decently dark rose colored tint. I wish it got a little darker...but it definitely works well enough. I absolutely LOVE this helmet - it is a work of art. The helmet is probably the best I've ever owned, even more so than the Shoei I use for touring. But being a race helmet the fit is too tight for my cheeks. Fits my head perfectly but too tight in the cheeks. I also, why they sent a red bag instead of yellow is beyond me (yellow hi-viz helmet)? This is an awesome helmet. Fits great, light weight and comfortable. The photochromatic visor is perfect, never need to carry an extra visor. Great ventilation also. FYI, I use this helmet when riding a 31mph electric skateboard. So you know what I mean when I say Great ventilation, I'm never riding fast, 20-30mph and I never feel hot. I also installed a cardo sound and intercom in it, fits well and sounds good. ... show more

So I ordered a large, because that's what the other brands were saying for my head size. Uhhh no. It was painful to get on and just as painful to get off. While on, the cheek pads squashed my cheeks. It was so small that if I were to exchange it, I probably would just go up 2 sizes. I got a large, and need an xl or XXL, but honestly I'll probably just stick with the Shoei helmet I ordered at the same time. I really like the photochromic shield and wish that was a part of the other helmets. Overall, I think as long as you get the right size, your odds of liking it will go up significantly. ... show more

I have been wearing Bell helmets for years. This is the best one , yet! The fit is perfect for my head. ( size medium ) it is very light weight because of the carbon fiber construction. The face shield works great and gets darker in the sun. This helmet does cost a little more, but what price can you put on head safety? ... show more

Been riding with Bell helmets for years. This is the second iteration of Race Star I’ve had. Really hard to let go of my Ace Cafe black and gold, but it was getting old…plus sustained a glancing impact during a crash. This one’s much lighter and slightly more comfy than the previous. Picture doesn’t do it justice. The mercury silver accents really pop, giving it an understated premium look. Safety features are unmatched…which I hope never to need to use. Transition visor it comes with is always amazing; otherwise, order the smoke silver visor to complete the look. ... show more

    • Not true to size
I ordered this helmet according to the sizing chart on the bell website and it is way too tight I suggust getting a size up. The cheek pads are killer on the face too you can't even open your mouth cuase you'd bite down on your inner cheeks. When I free myself from this helmet my ears felt like they were just folded into an origami sculpture. I also had an issue with installing my Pactalk with not being able to slide my battery pack into the helmet due to vents being in the way and since my ears are being crushed I couldn't imagine my speakers fitting although there is a recess for speakers. ... show more
