This works in that I can put my hot iron on it and it doesn't melt. So, yay for that. However it also transfers all of the heat through it to the surface below. So you basically need to put it on top of something else. It does protect from burns and lets me keep the iron horizontal, and therefore it won't tip over, which I've been afraid of.
