I put 1300 miles on it right after assembly and mounting. So far the use has been a rooftop cargo bag and on this trip it held fairly light bulky objects (blankets, pillows, towels) but lugging weight is not the need, getting bulk out of the interior is so I can see out the back. I've used the bag before and no matter how much I strapped it down it would slide and need adjusting at every rest stop (and scuffed up the roof). Mounting it to this rack was a lot simpler and it just stays put. Note the photos - I have no front to back adjustment on the cross bars and the spacing on the rack doesn't match perfectly but didn't seem to cause any issues. The clamps are held on with hand-tightened knobs which I checked at rests but they didn't come loose. We hit some light rain but nothing major. I don't plan to disassemble the rack but did use the included "silicone adhesive" (according to google translate since the writing on the tube was in a Chinese dialect) which seemed more like a lube or grease (very black and staining). I mounted the front plate backwards - the logo is on there I just didn't care to see it. I have not used the included net or ratchet straps but they appear decent so into the kit they go. ... show more

This is very easy to install and very sturdy. I think this is is rated to hold the same weight as my crossbar is rated for! This is changing the way I prep for camping. Also looks good and has low drag empty, I would leave it on my car all the time but I don't want to worry about possible rust with winter weather ... show more

This rack was relatively easy to assembly and mount on top of my VW Atlas. It has a nice clean rugged look to it and creates a lot of additional cargo space on top of our car now. The material and build quality of the rack are very impressive and I expect this to hold up well for many seasons. I'm still debating whether or not to leave it on year-round or only mount it for long distance road trips due to the added wind noise and drop in fuel efficiency. Pros: - Easy to assembly. - Truly a 1 person installation. At only ~38 lbs once assembled, I had no problems lifting it on and off the crossbars by myself for installation while climbing up a small step ladder. - Included elastic cargo net and ratchet straps are a nice extra bonus. - You can mount the wind fairing backwards if you wish to hide the brand logo. Cons: - The mounts do not work well on thin/aerodynamic cross bars. My crossbars are only ~0.75" thick and this makes mounting Option 2, as shown in the product photos, not possible because the mount won't actually tighten down onto the crossbar. They should state a minimum crossbar thickness requirement in order to use Option 2. This meant I had to use Option 1 instead which results in much more protrusion of the mounting hardware into the basket area. The U-bolt threads actually extended >1" beyond the thumb nut originally which would rip into my cargo bag so I ended up cutting them down using a cutoff wheel on a grinder. - The wind noise made by this rack isn't terrible but is definitely noticeable. All racks will do that though. Just know that if you're going over 50 mph you're going to hear it. - I wish they had provided black oxide coated stainless steel hardware to complete the assembly with. The plain stainless steel screws take away from the otherwise sleek all-black aesthetics of the rack. - They added a tube silicone adhesive in the hardware kit but the instructions made no mention of how/why to use it. I only now see on the Amazon product page their note of "We suggest applying the included anti-rust sealant around all connecting joints, welds, end caps to ensure rust-free Roof Cargo Basket." They really should put this note on the instruction sheet if it's critical. I'll be taking the rack on a 4 day snow trip this weekend so maybe after the trip I'll take it apart and see how much water accumulated inside the tubing and apply the sealant to all the tubing slip joints if it looks like it's really needed. ... show more

Ordered for placement on a toyota highlander. Item was easy to assemble and install. Able to place a roof bag on it and secure snugly. Sits pretty high on crossbars so make sure your garage doors have enough clearance if that would be an issue for you.

Bad weather makes it hard to install things but still can put together then have ready to install. The box this came in is quite small and I really thought well this is the size and maybe 1 suitcase would fit. Well let me tell you I took this out of the box and OMG this thing is going to be huge. I put this together inside the house and it may been a mistake because it's big. Took me about 2 hrs to assemble because I have not assembled one of these before. I am being asked about weatherproof and mileage and it's ment to be outside in all weather and made out of metal so don't be surprised how heavy this really is. Millage? Got to deduct stars because it does not take gas to increase gas milage and it does not have a odometer to keep track of mileage so not sure on what it wants for the review so I will always go half way on ratings. So for the ease of assembly I am also going half because it is alot of parts to put together if you get it you will know what I mean but please remember I am quite old in a way. I hope this really fits onto of the truck and funny thing is it looks like the middle part can be removed to make it shorter if needed so that's a plus I would think. These Roof Racks are a good value for the price you’re paying. Positives: 1) Assemble wasn’t difficult, took about an hour to assemble and mount it to the roof. The instructions they came with are clear and easy to understand. 2) Sturdy! After mounting properly, they haven’t moved at all. Very stable even driving 80mph. 3) It has a tough finish on the metal bars. No issue in different weather conditions. It’s been raining and cold here. 4) Includes tie-down belts and nets! Cons: Really only one. The clamp/bolt system they use to mount the rack has an issue. The U-shaped bolt (see 2nd photo) can only be used facing up when mounting onto a thin or aerodynamic crossbar. If you mount it with U facing down it is too loose and it will move around. However, when mounting the U bolts with an opening upward, the bolt protrudes upwards and could tear any bag or cases you put up there. Overall still good for the price! ... show more
