These Abu's are still some of the best. Smooth, comfortable, definitely dependable. This model is still made in Sweden, and the craftmanship is excellent. The thumb release is great, as you also hold the spool at the same time. The drag is rated at 15lbs, but definitely feels like more. I use these in both fresh, and salt.     • Line guide moves during casting
Style: C4-6600 Pattern Name: Reel
When using a bait casting reel, if your line guide doesn't move during casting, it causes friction between the line and the line guide thereby reducing the distance of your cast. This is one of the few reels in which the guide moves with the line as it peels off the spool allowing for longer, smoother casts and better spooling as you start the retrieve. If the guide doesn't move witht the cast, it could be at the opposite side of the spool from the line where it is spooling onto the reel making the next cast even worse. A definite plus for a baiit caster. I won't even mention metal gears and construction instead of cheap plastic. I have 3 of these 6600s and use them to cast heavy musky baits and bucktails. ... show more

Pros: The newer color scheme is cool, you can see it contrasted next to the previous blue reel in the picture. Between the smaller handle-side plate screws and lighter spool, the weight reduction is noticeable even if just barely. Cons: The screws mentioned above have been changed from knurled thumb-screws to regular flathead screws. THIS IS NOT COOL. Even though I do like the color, where's the creativity? Wish you Abu would bring back orange like the early 2000's rocket. I'd buy another orange one in a heartbeat. ... show more

I bought this reel the c4 5601 with casting for steelhead off the piers and in the rivers in mind. So far the thing that impresses me the most is the fact that backlash is not a factor in these reels. I have not backlashed yet! But to be honest I cast baitcast reels a ton. I think it worth mentioning again these reels cast real nice!! Another reason I purchased this reel is the line guide is always engaged, unlike all low profile bait casters. With a fast fish like steelhead a smooth reel that has a great drag with a gear ratio that can keep up with them is a must. I'd recommend these reels any day of the week. Tight lines!!! ... show more
