Ideal for simmering stews on a gas range but they should make bigger ones as I use big pots and they don't sit on these very well (they are too small). But they are heavy duty and work well. And I guess using them on an open gas flame you can't help being discolored after first use.

it is a great heat diffuser, I used an electric stove and it was easy to control lower temps... now I have a gas top with separate oven and the gas even in lower settings was too high until I found this, it save all my food, now I can leave stove alone for a few minutes without worrying of burning

Came on day promised,just also wanted to mention I personally had no problem with film on either one.Came off easily in one piece,no bind under seal.Will first burn each as should be with anything new.Waitig for a storm,now,but can't wait to use!

    • Great diffuser. Protective plastic film is an issue.
Goid size, fits most of my pots. Bought these for delicate sauces and tagine cooking. Materials are good. Diffuser works well. I was concerned about the white plastic insert in the handle but it is far enough from the flame and the handle is detachable. My only reason for giving three stars and not five is that the diffuser comes with a blue plastic film to protect it. The film was applied before the edge crimped band was put on. This means that even if you cut the plastic off, there is some trapped under the metal edge banding. I spent 30 minutes trying to pick out bits of plastic film with a knife but there was still a quite a bit that I could not remove. I solved the issue by burning it off over a high flame with the extractor vent on full. I am sure it is now carbonized and inert. May be I will do the second one outside when I fire up my grill. ... show more

    • Bought three kinds to handle slow cook burning potential.
Really nice. Handles detach to get out of way of many big pots. Easy to store. I got several kinds thinking they may be too specific for various use. But, so far... no.
