    • It is silver-plated brass.
So first we need to discuss what 925 sterling silver means as it seems like some people may not understand. Simply put 925 or 92.5 means a combination of 92.5% silver & 7.5% other metals - usually copper. Sterling silver is 925/92.5 & 925/92.5 is sterling silver, there's no difference. . . . In America. In other countries they may not have the same standards for what we call 'sterling silver'. 925 Sterling silver is most commonly used for jewellery because it is strong, tarnish resistant & hypoallergenic. There is 999/99.9 silver jewellery but it is not very common because it easily bends, easily scratches & is very soft. 925 silver is tarnish resistant but it will still tarnish - discolor - & turn your skin green or black depending on your body chemistry & the environment you live in. This is because of the 7.5% of other metals - usually copper - in the silver. Even if you've never had your skin change color with silver before it can still happen because medication, a large change in your diet, illness & simply growing older can change your pH balance. So if your jewellery is turning your skin colors, it doesn't necessarily mean it's not sterling silver. That being said, if a company is based in a country with lax standards they may be inclined or incouraged to call anything that's silver colored sterling. Now for the product. So when my earring hooks arrived, because of the mixed reviews, I took the most beat-up looking hook & started scratching & cutting at it. Silver-plating is easy to scratch off & if they were plated I was going to send them back. And thank goodness I did because just below the surface was a brass core, despite it being stamped 'S925'. But not the ball. The ball has a copper core. But regardless of my first 2 paragraphs rambling about sterling silver, labelling this as 925 silver when it's silver-plated is fraudulent & I will be getting my money back. In short, discoloration isn't necessarily a good way to tell if something is sterling silver or not. Scratching at it - as long as you don't mind damaging it - & testing to see if it's magnetic, is a good alternative. ... show more

This was supposed to be for artisan jewelry. The lack of consistency with these earrings is unbelievable. How these haven't been returned by everyone else, I don't know. But as you can see from the image, many were bent, many were broken, the shapes were inconsistent. Very low-quality.

I buy earring hooks from a jewelry company online, and they’re pretty expensive. So I was very surprised to find these on Amazon for such a great price. I needed them quickly too, so with Amazon Prime I knew I’d get them within a couple days which is always awesome. When I received them, they seemed high quality and passed the magnet test. A very disappointing purchase! These earrings looked fine in the bag so I attached them to my wooden charms before bed. The next morning I was gonna take some photos for Etsy and noticed they had already changed colors and looked very nasty.
